Let's Talk About Dementia flyer

#LifeatBHN – Supporting Alzheimer’s Society for 6 months

15th November 2019
The Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK charity that funds vital research into finding a cure for this debilitating disease that now impacts over 850,000 people in the UK. In addition to this, they campaign for change; keeping dementia at the top of the political agenda and raising awareness for a more dementia-friendly society. Crucially, they provide resources to support those who are living with dementia today.

Hawk Incentives are halfway through 12 months of committed fundraising for this fantastic cause, and we’re celebrating all the great activities our staff have taken part in to raise the pennies.

To kick off proceedings, we counted up our tuck shop till, which totalled an impressive £500 – not bad for our little stash of sweet goodies that keep our BHN Europe staff on a sugar high all year round!

In July, we held a bumper bake sale. Originally planned as a one-day event, but with so much cake donated it turned into a two-day feast. This particular event raised over £500 and highlighted some rather talented bakers among our numbers.

A couple of weeks later, 17 avid cyclists embarked on a challenge to ride the 100 miles between our Bath and Apsley offices. They arrived around 3pm to a chorus of cheers and applause, having raised over £1,500 in sponsorship.

August saw our grand summer party raffle, with some rather high-ticket prizes up for grabs. We had some very happy colleagues, who won golf days, spa treatments and smart watches. Unsurprisingly, everyone dug deep and we made over £370.

Next up was our (now) inaugural golf day at Shendish Manor. A group of very competitive golfers played 18 holes to determine the BHN department champions, with the Sales & Marketing team taking the trophy. A good time was had by all and we raised another £425 towards beating Alzheimer’s.

Finally, we used our presence at Employee Benefits Live to add another £800 to the collection. Visitors and business contacts who visited our stand were invited to add a Lego block to our special display, rather than taking home branded promotional merchandise. For every Lego brick added, we donated £1 to the fund.

Since pledging our support to Alzheimer’s Society, we have raised a whopping £3,927. We’re all very proud of this number and have every intention of trying to double this by next May.
Amanda Silcock, our Charity Ambassador, is leading our focus group who plan all of these fantastic events:

It’s a pleasure to be working alongside the Alzheimer's Society, in support of such a worthy cause that evidently affects so many of us, our colleagues, family and friends more than ever. Joining forces internally within BHN as a team is fantastic as well as fun - so many people have helped in the raising of these funds so far. Of course, it doesn't stop with fundraising, as we continue to explore ways in which our products and relationships can further support the Alzheimer's Society.

We have plenty more fundraising opportunities before the end of 2019. Currently, we’re hosting our very own version of ‘Movember’ – we have a brave band of beardgrowers who are competing for the coveted title of ‘best BHN moustache’ – the more they grow, the more they raise.

In addition to fundraising, we’re also looking to support the charity with their online presence, which will involve a team of our talented colleagues sitting in Alzheimer’s Society’s office for the day, analysing practices and making recommendations for change.
All in all, a pretty successful 6 months, even if we do say so ourselves. Follow our social channels to keep up to date with all of our fundraising efforts and watch this space for our next update!
